Founded in 1901, we have a rich and colorful history of continuous improvement and innovation at Walgreens. From inventing the world’s first chocolate malted milkshake to the creation of one of the most popular and sophisticated mobile applications in retail shopping today, we have transformed ourselves into a leader within the retail and drug industry.

Through our strategic partnership with Alliance Boots, we are now a global leader in pharmacy-led, health and well-being retail, and together have over 13,200 stores in 11 countries as well as one of the largest global pharmaceutical wholesale and distribution networks, with over 390 distribution centers delivering to more than 230,000 pharmacies, doctors, health centers and hospitals each year in more than 20 countries. In addition, Walgreens Boots Alliance is one of the world’s largest purchasers of prescription drugs and many other health and well-being products.

Walgreens currently has partnerships with universities around the country including: DePaul University, which offers an onsite MBA program in Deerfield, Illinois, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and University of Phoenix.  Walgreens employees (and in some cases immediate family members!) may be eligible for tuition savings of 10% — 40%.

Walgreens University’s Pharmacy Technician Certification & Training program was the first of its kind accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

This best-in-class training program is designed to prepare you to succeed in one of the most state-of-the-art pharmacy environments in the industry. And, like many of our programs, you may be eligible to gain college credit by completing it.

We fully support this national certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board for all of our pharmacy technicians – by providing review classes, study materials, and even sponsoring the cost of your exam. The Walgreens Pre-Pharmacy Student Educational Assistance Program assists students who are already Walgreens employees by reimbursing them up to $2,500 for required pre-pharmacy courses, once they are enrolled in pharmacy school.

Many veterans’ programs only offer a job. Walgreens is offering a path to store management. Our HERO Program is designed with our veterans’ in mind. The program merges the opportunity to continue to enhance your leadership experience in the civilian world, while pursuing a bachelor’s degree to help you achieve your educational goals.  Our goal is to provide store management careers to 5,000 veterans over the next five years. 2016 Walgreens pharmacies join the TRICARE retail pharmacy network. TRICARE serves 9.5 million patients all told, including Active Duty Service members, National Guard and Reserve members, retirees, their families, survivors and certain former spouses worldwide.
